Position Purpose

The purpose of this apprenticeship is to prepare trainees to operate independently and productively as qualified artisans. The Transnet Boilermaker Apprenticeship 2026 will be trained to plan and prepare materials, manufacture, assemble, inspect, commission installations and assemblies, modify and repair components, and apply technical knowledge across various contexts.

Position Outputs

  • Plan and prepare work sites, tools, and materials for trade-related operations.
  • Use hand, power, and measuring tools effectively and safely.
  • Install, assemble, and fit components and equipment.
  • Test, inspect, and commission mechanical installations and assemblies.
  • Maintain and repair structural and mechanical systems as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates must have one of the following qualifications:

N2 Subjects

  • Mathematics (Pure)
  • Engineering Science
  • Plating & Structural Drawing
  • Engineering Drawing (Draughting)
  • Metal Worker’s Theory
  • Plater’s Theory

Or N3–N6 Subjects

  • Mathematics (Pure)
  • Engineering Science
  • Plating & Structural Drawing
  • Engineering Drawing (Draughting)
  • Mechanotechnology

Or NCV Level 4

  • Fundamentals including English, Mathematics (Pure), and Life Orientation
  • Vocational subjects such as:
    • Engineering Process
    • Professional Engineering Practice
    • Applied Engineering Technology
    • Welding

Or Technical Grade 12

  • Mechanical Technology (Welding and Metal Work)
  • Life Orientation
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering and Graphic Design
  • Home Language & First Additional Language
  • Physical Science

Age Requirement: 18 – 35 years old
