About SANRAL

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) is a South African state-owned enterprise with the responsibility of maintaining, managing, and developing the expanding national road network within the country.

The SANRAL Bursary South Africa 2027 invites students to apply for their external bursary programme for the 2027 academic year. Full and partial bursaries are available for students pursuing critical fields for SANRAL’s operations.

Eligibility Requirements for the SANRAL Bursary South Africa 2027

Before you apply for the SANRAL Bursary South Africa 2027, check that you meet all the requirements below. If you miss any requirement, your application will not be considered.

• You must be a South African citizen under 35 years old
• You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
• You must be entering 1st year of undergraduate study in 2027
• You must be studying or accepted to study full-time in one of the eligible fields at a recognised public tertiary institution in South Africa
• You must meet academic requirements for the selected qualification (Matric students: minimum 70% overall average)
• You must have proven financial need
• You must not currently be receiving another bursary
• Students with disabilities are welcome to apply

Below are the required documents to support any online application submission for the SANRAL Bursary South Africa 2027. All certified copies should be certified as true copies within 3 months of submission.

General Documents

• Letter of Motivation – Tell us a bit about yourself and why you would like to receive a SANRAL bursary (1 page)
• Certified copies of birth certificates or ID’s of all members of the family
• Certified copy of death certificate (if applicable)
• Proof of legal guardian (if applicable)
• Copy of parent’s full divorce agreement (if applicable)
• Single parents must provide a letter from Home Affairs confirming marital status and an affidavit stating knowledge about information regarding another parent
• Unemployed siblings under 18 years and not studying must provide a letter from the Department of Labour
• Siblings studying at FET College or at a tertiary institution must provide proof of registration
• Marriage certificate of applicant’s parents, or if applicant is married, their marriage certificate
• If parents are married but separated, attach legal documents as proof of separation or report from Department of Social Services
• Proof of residence (water and electricity bill from the local council in the name of parents/legal guardian)
• Your ID document or birth certificate (you must be a South African citizen)
• ID documents of your parents/legal guardian

Academic Documents

• For applicants in high school: Results from Term 1 and 2
• For applicants at tertiary level: Full academic record from current tertiary institution
• Proof of tertiary application

Proof of Income (not older than 3 months of submission)

If parent/guardian/spouse are employed:

• Salary/wage slips of parent(s)/guardian(s)/spouse

If parent/guardian/spouse are informal traders/hawkers:

• Proof of income
• Proof of lease agreement if renting accommodation

If parent/guardian/spouse are earning commission:

• IRP5, IT3 and IT12 (last 2 years)

If parent/guardian/spouse are owners or members of a CC/Pty(Ltd) and/or sole proprietor (owner):

• Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement
• IT14 – Tax return for business (last 2 years)
• IT12 – Tax return for the individual (last 2 years)
• IT3 – Income Tax Certificate from the Bank (last 2 years)

If parent/guardian/spouse are unemployed:

• Official letter from the Department of Labour / Affidavit proving unemployment status

Important Information for Applicants

• Proof of income should not be older than 3 months of submission
• All copies should be certified as true copies within 3 months of submission
• If supported by a guardian, the death certificate of parent(s) or a letter from social services should be included
• Include proof of registration of sibling(s) studying at tertiary institution
• If your family is fostering a child, please include court decree
• Marriage certificate of applicant’s parents, if married; marriage certificate of applicant
• Only fully completed application forms will be accepted
