Northern Cape Provincial Government Bursary 2026

The Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG) invites students residing in the province to apply for the 2026 Provincial Transversal Bursary Programme.

About the Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG)

The Northern Cape Provincial Government is responsible for making laws and delivering essential public services to communities across the province. Working alongside the national government and local municipalities, the NCPG ensures that citizens have access to quality education, healthcare, and socio-economic development opportunities.

Through its bursary programme, the NCPG aims to empower young residents by funding their tertiary education—particularly in scarce and critical skills that are needed within both the public and private sectors.

Fields of Study Covered

The bursary is available to students from the Northern Cape who are pursuing undergraduate or first-degree qualifications in scarce and critical fields. Priority is given to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, as well as careers aligned with hard-to-fill vacancies in the region.

Bursary Coverage & Value

The bursary provides financial support for the following expenses:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Books and study materials
  • Accommodation (where applicable)

The bursary amount is determined according to a sliding scale based on total household income:

  • R0 – R350 000/year: up to R120 000
  • R350 001 – R550 000/year: up to R100 000
  • R550 001 – R800 000/year: up to R80 000
Note: The bursary does not cover outstanding or pre-existing student debt.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen residing in the Northern Cape
  • Be between 18 and 30 years old
  • Be currently in or have completed Matric
  • Be unemployed at the time of application
  • Be studying or intending to study towards an undergraduate qualification in an approved field
  • Be registered or provisionally accepted at a recognised public higher education institution
  • Demonstrate financial need and a strong academic record

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 27 February 2026. If you do not receive feedback by this date, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Successful applicants will be required to sign a bursary contract with the Northern Cape Provincial Government.

How to Apply

  1. Download and complete the NCPG Bursary Application Form 2026.
  2. Alternatively, collect a form at one of the following offices:
    • Office of the Premier
    • Department of Labour
    • Thusong Centres
    • Northern Cape Urban or Rural TVET Colleges
  3. Attach certified copies of all required documents (ID, results, proof of income, proof of acceptance, etc.).
  4. Submit via email or hand delivery before the closing date.
