Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) Bursary 2026 — The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA), a sector of the South African government responsible for supporting and contributing to developing technical capacity towards sustained accelerated municipal infrastructure and service delivery, invites students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2026 academic year. Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the Built Environment fields including Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Management, Project and Construction Management, and Urban and Regional Planning. A total of 60 bursaries are available across University, University of Technology, and TVET College levels.
About MISA
The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA), a sector of the South African government, is responsible for supporting and contributing to developing technical capacity towards sustained accelerated municipal infrastructure and service delivery.
The MISA’s mandate is to provide municipalities with support in conducting effective infrastructure, in order to achieve sustainable service delivery, to provide municipalities with support and assistance in operating and maintaining municipal infrastructure, to provide municipalities with support and assistance in implementing infrastructure projects per the municipal Integrated Development Plans (IDPs), and to build municipalities’ capacity in order to ensure effective planning, delivery, operations and management of municipal infrastructure.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following Built Environment fields:
- Civil Engineering: National Diploma/N2-N6 (10 bursaries for University studies and 10 bursaries for University of Technology)
- Electrical Engineering: National Diploma/N2-N6 (10 bursaries for University studies, 10 bursaries for University of Technology, 5 bursaries for TVET College studies)
- Environmental Management: National Diploma/Degree (5 bursaries for University studies)
- Project and Construction Management/Studies: National Diploma/Degree (3 bursaries for University studies and 2 bursaries for University of Technology)
- Urban and Regional Planning / Town and Regional Planning: National Diploma/Degree (10 bursaries for University studies and 5 bursaries for University of Technology)

Eligibility Requirements for Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) Bursary 2026
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying full-time towards a qualification, within one of the fields of study listed above
- You must be studying or registered/accepted to study at a recognised tertiary institute in South Africa (University, University of Technology or TVET College)
- You must have a total combined household income of less than R600,000 per annum
- You must have passed all courses from the previous year of study, if currently studying
Preference: Students from rural areas and previously disadvantaged communities. Students with disabilities and youth from previously disadvantaged areas are encouraged to apply.
