About the Role
Cummins Inc. is looking for a dedicated and driven Apprentice – Engine Workshop Technician to join our Distribution Business Segment in Gamagara, Northern Cape. This apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop your technical skills while working for a global leader in power solutions and engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- 🧰 Support Workshop Operations: Assist with day-to-day workshop activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- 🧼 Maintain Cleanliness and Order: Help clean, inspect, and disassemble components to maintain a safe, organised, and productive work environment.
- ⚙️ Learn and Master Repair Techniques: Follow Standard Repair Times (SRTs) and Cummins procedures to perform basic repairs and maintenance effectively.
- 📋 Accurate Documentation: Complete job cards, work reports, and time sheets accurately to support proper record-keeping and tracking.
- 📚 Skill Development: Participate in structured training programmes aligned with business and technical requirements to enhance your knowledge and capability.
- 🛠️ Tool and Equipment Care: Keep tools and equipment clean, well-maintained, and ready for use at all times.
- ⚠️ Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards to promote a safe working environment.
- 📢 Proactive Reporting: Report any operational issues, safety concerns, or incidents to supervisors promptly to assist with continuous improvement.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Proficiency in Product Repair & Maintenance: Support in repairing and maintaining mechanical and electrical products, including disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of engines and power systems.
- Strong Mechanical Knowledge: Apply mechanical principles, adhere to industry and Cummins standards, and perform work safely and efficiently.
- Effective Diagnostics: Translate customer concerns into troubleshooting plans using diagnostic tools and software, and document results accurately.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure all service documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with operational requirements.
- Valid Driver’s Licence: Required to meet job duties and travel requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have one of the following educational pathways:
Option 1:
- National Senior Certificate (Matric), plus
- N3, N4, and N6 Certificates in Engineering Studies with the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Engineering Drawing or Mechanical Draughting
- Mechanotechnics / Diesel Trade Theory / Motor Trade Theory
- Power Machines, Fluid Mechanics, Physics, or Supervisory Management
Option 2:
- National Senior Certificate (Matric), plus
- NCV Level 4 qualification from a TVET College, including:
- Engineering Processes
- Professional Engineering Practice
- Applied Engineering Technology
- Automotive Repair & Maintenance
- Mathematics
- English (First Language)
- Life Skills and Computer Literacy
Option 3:
- NCV Level 4 qualification from a TVET College with the same relevant subjects as listed above.
