About the Role
Cummins Inc. is looking for a passionate and skilled Apprentice – Onsite Engine Technician to join our Distribution Business Segment at the Grootegeluk Mine in Lephalale. This hands-on apprenticeship is a great opportunity to develop your technical expertise and kickstart your career with a global leader in engine technology and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- 🔧 Support Workshop Operations: Assist with daily workshop and field service activities to maintain smooth and efficient operations.
- 🧼 Maintain Cleanliness and Order: Help clean, inspect, and disassemble components to keep the work environment safe and organised.
- ⚙️ Learn and Apply Repair Techniques: Follow Standard Repair Times (SRTs) and Cummins procedures to perform basic repairs and maintenance effectively.
- 📋 Assist with Documentation: Complete work reports, time sheets, and job cards accurately for effective record-keeping.
- 📚 Develop Technical Skills: Participate in structured training aligned with business and industry standards to enhance your technical abilities.
- 🛠️ Tool and Equipment Care: Maintain tools and ensure they are clean, functional, and properly stored.
- ⚠️ Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies to maintain a safe work environment and prevent incidents.
- 📢 Proactive Reporting: Communicate any technical issues, faults, or incidents to supervisors promptly to support continuous improvement.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Proficiency in Product Repair & Maintenance: Assist in the disassembly, repair, and reassembly of engines and power systems while ensuring quality and efficiency.
- Mechanical Knowledge: Understand Cummins and industry standards, and apply mechanical principles safely and effectively.
- Diagnostic Skills: Translate customer complaints into practical troubleshooting steps using specialised diagnostic equipment and software.
- Documentation Accuracy: Ensure all maintenance and repair work is properly documented for quality assurance and billing.
- Valid Driver’s Licence: Required to perform job-related tasks and travel as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for this apprenticeship, you must meet one of the following education pathways:
Option 1:
- National Senior Certificate (Matric), plus
- N3, N4, and N6 Certificates in Engineering Studies, including subjects such as:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Engineering Drawing or Mechanical Draughting
- Mechanotechnics / Diesel Trade Theory / Motor Trade Theory
- Power Machines, Fluid Mechanics, Physics, or Supervisory Management
Option 2:
- National Senior Certificate (Matric), plus
- NCV Level 4 qualification from a TVET College with the following subjects:
- Engineering Processes
- Professional Engineering Practice
- Applied Engineering Technology
- Automotive Repair & Maintenance
- Mathematics
- English (First Language)
- Life Skills and Computer Literacy
Option 3:
- NCV Level 4 qualification from a TVET College with the same relevant subjects listed above.
